New qualifications from 1 August 2010
Hair and Beauty Qualifications for implementation from 1 August 2010 in England, Wales and Northern Ireland
All Hair and Beauty qualifications on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) expire in July 2010. They will be replaced by new Hair and Beauty qualifications which will be available for delivery from 1 August 2010 on the new Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF).
Notable changes to the NVQs include:
- Minor changes to the title of the qualifications e.g.
NQF title was Level 1 NVQ in Hairdressing and Barbering - QCF title will now be Level 1 NVQ Certificate in Hairdressing and Barbering.
NQF title was Level 2 in Hairdressing – QCF title is now Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Hairdressing.
- The optional structure to each qualification has changed from the minimum number of optional units to be taken to minimum number of optional credits to be taken. This is still in addition to the mandatory units needed to achieve the qualification.
The qualifications for the NVQs in Hairdressing, Barbering and African Type Hair are currently on the QCF and have been available since July 2009 but were only given accreditation for 1 year. The new NVQ qualifications will see some minor updates for learners who register from 1 August 2010 onwards. However these updates will not affect the content delivery or assessment requirements for individual units.

Beauty Therapy, Nail Services and Spa Therapy - NVQs
The new NVQs in Beauty Therapy, Nail Services and Spa Therapy will be available for delivery from 1 August 2010.
