Frequently Asked Questions

Questions
There is no government requirement to have a particular level of tanning qualification in order for someone to gain insurance and be able to practice tanning. However, insurance companies will expect a level of training, if only by the sun bed manufacturer before they will offer insurance. Habia have written Occupational Standards for both UV and Self Tanning which form the basis of all qualifications in these areas and can be used by all manufacturers/suppliers as a minimum standard for their training. They are presently optional units in the Level 3 Beauty Therapy qualification. All Awarding bodies that offer these qualifications ensure that they cover these areas as a minimum standard. The Sunbed Association (TSA) (www.sunbedassociation.org.uk) was established in 1995 as the industry's trade association with the primary aim of promoting consistent good practice in the use of sunbeds. As such, all members must adhere to TSA's Code of Practice, ensuring that self-regulation is promoted throughout the industry. It may be worth looking on their website.
