Sophie Hendy Reaches UK Skills Final
Sophie Hendy, of Tommy's Hair Company Llandudno, will take part in the World Skills UK Advanced Hairdressing Final Show in Birmingham this November, having secured her place by taking Bronze in the first regional heat in June. Sophie is the first ISA apprentice to reach the final.
Fellow Tommy’s employee Enya Roberts also competed in the regional heat and received excellent feedback. The girls had one hour to complete a ladies hair-up fashion style followed by another hour to complete a pre-coloured commercial gents cut and style.
VQ Awards recognition for Darryn Pitman
Former ISA learner Darryn Pitman reached the final of the 2016 VQ Awards, which celebrate outstanding careers forged on vocational training.
Darryn has won multiple awards within the hair industry, but his great passion is training the next generation of hairdressers and barbers, having benefited hugely from the apprenticeships that set him on the way to international success.
"An apprenticeship is a great way to learn a trade and having hands-on training was essential for my progress" he said. "From day one, I knew I wanted to be a world famous hairdresser and nothing was going to stand in my way".
Darryn is delivering training on a world tour throughout 2016 for Dear Barber, a company he represents as a global ambassador. He is also the official UK ambassador for Matakki Scissors.
He has won trophies in 36 hairdressing competitions for both ladies and men's styling and was Wahl British Barber of the Year 2014 and Hairdressers Journal's International Barber of the Year 2013.
Berni Tyler, managing director of ISA, said, "Self-belief is not common in young people and to have an ambassador like Darryn to promote this to young apprentices is priceless".
